Career Change Leads to Changing Lifestyles One Person at a Time

I left corporate America to become an ACE certified personal trainer and ACE fitness nutrition specialist.

I provide private training at home and at work to busy professionals. My goal and my passion is to help clients have more energy, so they can be more productive when working and get more out of life when they are not.

The idea to go into fitness and make a career of it was borne out of an unexpected revelation that changed my life. It was during open enrollment at the company I worked at then. I completed a health assessment as required by all employees at this company. The results shocked me. I was in the red category. Because of my age, gender, ethnicity, the line of work I was in, lack of exercise, and poor diet, I was deemed a HIGH RISK for diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Wait a minute! What? Until that time, early 40s, I had not given my health much thought.

It seems I am not alone, according to a 2016 survey by Truven Health Analytics and NPR, 80% of Americans fail to eat enough fruit and vegetables. Furthermore, although the benefits, such as improved energy, improved metabolic health, of regular exercise are well known and well documented, according to the National Institute of Health only 26% of Americans meet the recommended guidelines for physical activity. It is recommended that adults do 150 minutes of moderate exercise like walking per week or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity like running.

There is plenty of information out there. Some say too much. I tend to agree. We all know what we need to do. Eat better. Exercise more. Well, what is that exactly? You may be allergic to fish so you can’t eat salmon. What are your options? The fitness regimen your best friend is doing may not be suited for you and so on. Confusion leads to paralysis. Months go by and you fail to take action. And the guilty monkey is your constant companion. Here we are July 2017, are you any closer to achieving your personal fitness and healthy goals that you set early this year?

Don’t hold yourself back. Working out and eating healthy do not have to feel bad. You don’t have to give up everything you enjoy eating, unless you are doing the #Whole30, you will for a while. I am not hating on the #Whole30. It is a great program! You don’t have to give up going out and socializing either. I am not a drill sergeant. My job, as a personal trainer, is to keep you motivated and positive so you want to keep going.
